Just got a call from my favorite nurse, Kathryn, and tonight is the night to trigger! Andrew will be giving me the trigger shot at 9:45 pm tonight and then I will go in for the IUI at 9:45 am on Sunday morning. Since it will be on Easter Sunday, I am now referring to the contents of my ovaries as my little Easter eggs...hee hee hee =)
During our phone conversation this afternoon, the nurse had another serious talk with me about the "risk" of multiples. She explained that technically, any follicle that is 14 mm or bigger is capable of producing a viable egg so they are a little worried that I technically have 4 follicles that could be releasing 4 eggs this weekend. She said that they usually don't inseminate with this many but since this is our last shot, they're going to go ahead and make an exception for me. While I assured her I don't want to be the next "octo-mom," I also told her that we will be thrilled with a positive pregnancy test...period. Once we get a positive test, the rest is in God's hands as to how many babies He has in store for us. And on the other side of the issue, if the test is negative, then we will accept that result as part of God's plan as well.
It's going to be a crazy weekend with me working at church tonight and again all day tomorrow. I won't have too much time to think about things since I'll be so busy, but all I know is this: This is the last time I will have to go through this. This will be the last attempt at getting pregnant and then one way or another, we will have closure. That is so comforting to think about. It will be wonderful to be able to say goodbye to CCRM after 4 years of fertility treatments, ridiculously invasive tests, painful procedures and obscene amounts of money spent. In early 2007 when I walked into Dr. Surrey's office for a consultation, I had no idea what the next 4 years would be like. It's been a long journey. But with this chapter of our lives nearing an end, both my uterus and our bank account will finally have a chance to fully recover from all this fertility junk and maybe by this time next year, we'll be well on our way on that road to recovery.
I'll update the blog again on Sunday after the IUI (if I'm feeling up to it). Please pray for us this weekend!
