Greg amazes me every single day. He is so perceptive, so intelligent and so funny! I took such a long break from blogging (the entire summer just flew by) and I really want to make a point to sit down and document some of his zingers in my blog so that I don't forget them. I'm sure I missed many wonderful, funny and brilliant things over the summer that came out of his cute little mouth, but I'm going to start doing a better job at keeping a journal of the amazing things that my baby says. Starting NOW!
#1) Greg went to preschool this morning and when I picked him up and we got in the car, we started talking about his day and what he did at school. As we pulled out of the parking lot, Greg asked where we were going and I said we were going home. As we approached the first stop light, he said "we need to turn left here." I was very impressed and said, "that's right buddy, good job!" Greg has always loved riding in the car. He rarely sleeps in the car because he is fascinated by looking out the window, taking in the world as it passes by his window. He especially loves our new Tahoe because we're up so high he can see everything! Anyway, after we made the left turn, we stayed on that road for a few miles. As we were approaching the big intersection where we needed to make our next turn, he proceeded to tell me, in order, all the turn directions for us to get home! He said "Sweetheart! Now we need to turn right, then right again, then left, then another right and then we're home!" Seriously?!?!? He said every turn in the right order, getting us onto the main street near our house, then into our housing tract and all the way to our driveway! WOW! Amazing! He loves looking at stop lights and directing my driving based on the lights ("it's red so we have to stop. Now it's green....green means go!") Lately he's been very conscious of left and right directions, left and right hands, feet, shoes etc. And now he's turned into my own little navigation system from the back seat! I'm so impressed that he's so aware and pays such close attention to his surroundings. He's done this for quite some time, recognizing main streets and pointing in the direction of his friends' houses etc. He'll say "Isabella's house is that way" or "Ethan's house is that way." Recognizing land marks - no problem. He's been doing that for a long time. But turn by turn directions through our neighborhood? He just blew me away with that one!
Then, this afternoon we stayed indoors because it was cold and rainy outside. We cuddled up on the couch and watched the "Ellen Degeneres Show." I started watching Ellen when I was on maternity leave, shortly after Greg was born. He has grown up dancing with her, watching the musical performances etc on her show. Earlier this year, Greg was very focused on determining the differences between boys and girls and he loves to announce to me who is a boy and who is a girl. While he's usually very good at this, Ellen has been a puzzle for him. He naturally associates longer hair with women, and also pays attention to clothes. Any time I wear a skirt, he'll say "Cool dress Sweetheart!" The way he notices my clothes, my eye make-up when I wear it etc just really blows me away. I don't know if other kids his age are this observant but I think it's cool. So anyway, he still asks me if Ellen is a boy or a girl. So today, he asked me again, "Sweetheart, is Ellen a boy or a girl?" I said, "She's a girl, honey." To which he asked, "Why? Why is she a girl?" and I said,"because she has girl parts honey." He paused and thought about it for a moment before countering, saying "Nu-uh, she doesn't have any boobs!" LOL! I literally laughed out loud....this kid cracks me up! When I finished laughing, I said "Honey, she does have boobs, you just can't see them because they're under her clothes." He paused and thought for a moment and then moved on to another topic. I pondered that conversation for the rest of the evening. I'm probably over analyzing things but at 3 and a half years old, does my little boy already assume that all women on tv show cleavage? I know he doesn't expect all women to dress like that because I certainly don't and neither do any of my female friends here that he sees all the time. I know my boy is smart so I just wonder if he's already learned that women on tv dress different and show a lot more skin....just something to ponder.
