Today I went in for my 2nd IUI attempt. After a couple ultrasounds, more little blue Estrace pills to thicken my uterine lining and another trigger shot, I was once again in the stirrups. This time was not quite as bad as the first time. For one thing, I had a different nurse do it. Last time Helen did the IUI procedure and it hurt like a mother! This time I had a different nurse who had a much better bed-side manner. She moved very carefully and slowly, explaining everything as she was going along. I told her how last time Helen couldn't find my cervix and had to use a bigger speculum, so she started out using a big speculum. Apparently, it was too big. Yeah, that felt like a knife was trying to force its way in. Not good. So she tried a longer, more slender speculum and that did the trick. Once she was in there, she used her free hand to press down really hard on my outer abdominal wall, trying to manipulate my uterus I think. Like Helen, she couldn't quite find the right spot and couldn't tell if the catheter was in the right place. But, unlike Helen, she wanted to be sure before she released the swimmers so she left the room and had an ultrasound tech come in. The ultrasound tech put the cool gel on my c-section scar and then placed the tool on my abdomen. Then we were able to see my uterus and the nurse was able to confirm she had it in the right place. She released the swimmers and we were also able to see them in my uterus too. Very interesting.
After the procedure I had some mild cramping but nothing like the intense cramping I had last month. Overall, this time was much better. Less painful and less emotional.
So here are the specs for our sample o' the month:
Sample size: 1 ml
53 million sperm
Pre wash motility: 42
Post wash motility: 44
Post prep forward motion 2-3+ (excellent)
According to the Andrologist, this sample is slightly better than last months so here's to hoping this is the month it works! Now we begin the 2 week wait until the pregnancy test. Hopefully I'll have good news for you on June 2nd!
